Polish Major-General Sosabowski
A portrait of the Polish general Stanisław Sosabowski, the founder and commander of the sole Polish airborne unit. He was scapegoated by the English for the Battle of Arnhem’s failure and suffered for this all his life. One of the consequences was that he was denied a pension and had to work in a factory until the age of seventy-five. Despite this, veterans who had fought alongside him in Driel would invariably salute him whenever they saw him driving a forklift. In recent times, Sosabowski’s honor has been restored and the historic injustice undone.
