Airborne Troopers behind barbed wire

During the Battle of Arnhem a grand total of 6,340 paratroopers were captured. They were taken to so-called “Mannschaftsstamm- und Straflagers”, camps for prisoners of war, abbreviated as “Stalag”. These were incomparable to the concentration camps; prisoners here were treated according to the Geneva Conventions. Depicted is a watchtower guarded by barbed wire, holding a symbolic, chained Pegasus.
